Man, 64, accosted and robbed by three women

A 64-year-old man getting the last bus home from town was accosted by three women who demanded money and went through his pockets to rob him, and yesterday one of the culprits was jailed for eight months.

Kathleen Maughan, aged 45, of Cork Simon Community, pleaded guilty to her part in the robbery of the man at Parnell Place in Cork.

Insp Pat Meaney said the robbery of John Gallagher near the bus station on Parnell Place occurred on the night of Aug 21, 2012.

At almost 11.10pm and the injured party was on his way to the last bus home to Blackrock. As he was nearing the bus he was surrounded by three females who made a verbal demand for money.

He felt hands going into his pockets and his mobile phone, bus pass and €40 in cash were taken. There was no physical violence.

Judge Leo Malone imposed the eight-month jail term on Maughan for her part in the crime.

Judge Malone imposed a concurrent four-month sentence on Maughan for another offence, namely a theft, on Sept 28, 2012.

On that date she stole a purse from the handbag of a woman who was browsing in the Enable Ireland charity on North Main St.
