Enda Kenny refused to be drawn on whether the Government would stand over threats to force through pay cuts for workers but said the Coalition was united on the need for extra payroll savings.

The Taoiseach also said that the door of the Government was open for talks with trade unions following their rejection of the Croke Park deal extension.

However, he refused to outline a plan B for the Government following the deal’s collapse or say if legislation to cut 7% in pay across the board for public service workers was still forthcoming.
