The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has been forced to repeatedly defend RTÉ over claims its coverage of Savita Halappanavar’s tragic death was biased in favour of abortion.

The latest batch of rulings from the State’s independent TV and radio watchdog, published yesterday, shows the organisation was inundated with complaints relating to the tragedy as the abortion row unfolded.

All formal criticisms linked to the death were ultimately rejected.
