Sex shop operators face charges over tablets
Brian O’Byrne, of Capel St in Dublin, and Jacqueline Byrne, who has an address at Elmcastle Drive, Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, Dublin, have been accused of breaching medicinal products regulations.
The case brought against them by the Irish Medicines Board relates to products that were allegedly on sale at an adult shop called Shauna’s, on Dublin’s Capel St, in 2010.
It is alleged that on dates from March 23, 2010, until December 8 that year, they had for sale Kamagra tablets containing the prescription-only medicine Sildenafil, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.
They are also accused of stocking coconut, peach, and passion fruit flavoured Kamagra oral jelly, as well as a cream called Retardin, which helps prevent premature ejaculation, and contains the drug Lidocaine.
Ronan Kennedy, BL for IMB, told Judge John O’Neill at Dublin District Court yesterday that at least six witnesses are to be called to give evidence for the prosecution.
The trial is expected to last half a day but could not proceed yesterday because a key witness was not available to come to court, counsel explained.
Mr Kennedy asked for an adjournment and Judge O’Neill noted that the defence was agreeable to a new date being set.
The case first came before the court last September and was on its third listing yesterday.
Mr O’Byrne and Ms Byrne have both pleaded not guilty to the charges and a hearing date in May has been reserved.
Combined, they face 25 charges under the Medicinal Products (prescription and control of supply) regulations.
