The Revenue Commissioners have completed a full audit — the first of its kind — of the Houses of the Oireachtas, including checks on payments for elected members.

Sources at Leinster House confirmed last night that Revenue officials had finished a two-week trawl of spending records by the Oireachtas.

It is the first time that Revenue has carried out such a check since the Oireachtas commission officially came into existence in 2004.
