Dutch food safety watchdogs have indicated that more than one company in the Netherlands is the focus of the investigation into the possible source of horsemeat content in Tesco budget burgers.

The NVWA, the Dutch counterpart to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, was drafted into the investigation at the request of the FSAI last week and has been looking into the content of additives which may have been added to the Silvercrest-produced burgers at the centre of the controversy.

NVWA spokesman Roel Vincken said ā€œcompaniesā€ in the Netherlands were being investigated, and when asked how many companies were involved replied: ā€œAt least one and maybe more than oneā€.
