Man charged with assault year after pub killing

Detective Garda Anthony Harrington arrested Keith Spillane, 36, of 10 Ashbrook Heights, Lehenaghmore, Togher, Cork, outside Cork District Court shortly before 10.30am yesterday.

Spillane was charged with assault causing harm to Dean Crinnion at the Manhattan Bar, Lower Friars Walk, Ballyphehane, Cork, on Dec 27, 2011.

Inspector Bill Duane said there was no Garda objection to the accused being released on bail.

The Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial on indictment and a book of evidence is being prepared on this and other charges.

Mr Spillane was charged last month with engaging in violent disorder at the same place and date and producing a pickaxe in the course of the alleged incident.

Judge Leo Malone adjourned the case against Spillane until Jan 23.

Bail conditions require Spillane to sign on at Togher Garda Station on Mondays and Fridays.

Two other men facing various charges arising out of the events of that date were also charged with various counts last month.

Gerard Delaney, 51, from Mahon in Cork, was fatally assaulted in the early hours of Dec 27 last year at Lower Friars Walk, Ballyphehane, Cork.
