Urn with parents’ ashes stolen

A distraught woman has made an urgent appeal for the return of an urn containing her parents’ ashes which was stolen by a burglar who raided her house while she slept.

Urn with parents’ ashes stolen

The woman, who lives in the Deerpark estate south of Tallaght, was asleep upstairs when a burglar broke in between 11pm on New Year’s Eve and 4am yesterday.

It is believed several items were taken. However, gardaí have been unable to prepare a complete inventory of the stolen property because the woman has been too upset over the loss of the most treasured possession.

The urn was on the mantlepiece. It was a 6in square box with a glass top and it had two dolphin emblems on one side. The box was black.

There were no reports of other burglaries in the area or of particularly suspicious activity at the time.

A Garda statement said: “Obviously, this crime has caused considerable distress to the family and anyone with information should contact Tallaght Garda station on 01 6666000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”
