Tears of joy as Wild Geese make their return

The great Christmas migration is in full flight as hundreds of thousands move into, out of, and across the country.

For the first time in three years the spectre of hazardous winter weather appears to be absent but driving conditions will remain difficult with fog, strong winds, and some icy patches predicted over the weekend.

The airports remained open yesterday as the busiest period of the year took hold.
