An independent probe into Savita Halappanavar’s death was launched because HSE details suggest there are “reasonable grounds” to believe there is “a serious risk” to other pregnant women.

Hiqa probe of ‘serious risk’ during pregnancy

The comment was made by the Health Information Quality Authority as it confirmed the terms of reference for its examination of Mr Halappanavar’s death.

Hiqa “believes that on reasonable grounds there is a serious risk to the health or welfare of persons receiving services”. The spokeswoman added that this view is based on “amongst other things, information and correspondence received from the HSE”.
