Mother sent forward for trial for son’s murder

Diane Ward, of Harrison’s Place, Charleville, who is alleged to have killed her son Anthony on Sept 3, will be tried at the Central Criminal Court. The boy was found dead at their home.

Supt Pat McCarthy, Mallow, told Limerick District Court he served the book of evidence yesterday morning on Paul Cagney, solicitor for the defendant.

Mr Cagney told the court Ms Ward agreed to have the book served on her through him. Ms Ward, aged 42, appeared via video link. She confirmed her name to the court and said she could hear proceedings.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly told her she had 14 days to give the State details of any defence witnesses she may call at her trial.

Ms Ward was remanded in continuing custody to appear for trial to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
