Home raided as couple go to hospital

Four youths are suspected of carrying out the burglary, which happened on Monday night on Cork Road.

Detectives are said to be making progress in their investigation and are understood to have gathered CCTV footage which may have captured information on the thieves.

It is understood that a woman left in an ambulance with her husband after he became ill.

Garda sources said it was not clear whether the thieves spotted the couple leaving, were tipped off by someone else, or just happened to target the house after it was vacated.

However, it is thought the youths are from local housing estates and might have become aware the house was empty.

It is not clear what they stole.

Sources said the burglary was a considerable cause of distress to the couple, who had been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.

Detectives from Ballybricken Garda Station are investigating the matter.

One Garda source said detectives “hoped to make progress” in relation to the matter.
