FF recommends reducing pensions of former leaders

Fianna Fáil has recommended reducing the pensions of former leaders Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen as part of its budget proposals.

The party says all former politicians and public servants in receipt of pensions of €75,000 and above should take more cuts.

It has also called for next year’s increments — annual pay increases afforded to public servants — to be deferred. It said the increments should not be paid next year and be held off until a later date.
