Two Irish tourists have been arrested after a drunken rampage in a hotel in the popular Algarve resort of Albufeira.

The men — aged 28 and 36 — were held after televisions, chairs and bottles were hurled from their balcony, causing thousands of euro in damages.

Armed riot police were called and smashed down the pair’s hotel door after they barricaded themselves inside. One man allegedly tried to stab a police officer, who deflected the blow with his riot shield.
