Although every other footballing county failed to lower Donegal’s colours over the course of the year, its own county council has decided to do the job itself.

Work crews for the local authority have been instructed to remove lingering banners and bunting still flying since the county’s All-Ireland win in September.

The council cited fears the harsh highland winter will whip the symbols of support from lamp posts. Local councillors have been told safety concerns would arise if the flags and bunting were allowed to remain in place when storms blew in.
