Views of grieving family to be sought

The views of the family of the pregnant Indian woman who died tragically after she was refused an abortion will be taken on board before the terms of a reference of an investigation into her death are finalised.

Health Minister James Reilly said this approach “would be normal in a case as serious as this” and that the family of 31-year-old Savita Halappanavar would be consulted.

Mr Reilly, in Cork to discuss his plans for reform of the health service, said while he wanted Ms Halappanavar’s family “to have certainty about the facts of what happened here” as quickly as possible, he was also conscious of the need for due process.
