Cork’s city manager has expressed regret after household tax warning letters were issued to dead people.

Tim Lucey also dismissed claims that women in households were being targeted in a bid to increase compliance rates. “I can assure you that there was no process to target females rather than males,” he said.

However, he revealed that compliance rates in Cork City have increased to close to 67%, which means spending cuts in the coming months will be less severe than previously anticipated.
