Desmond key to Celtic move

Celtic FC’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond played a key role in Jim McGuinness’s appointment at the Scottish club.

Qualified sports psychologist McGuinness was yesterday confirmed as Celtic’s new performance coach, although he will remain as manager of All-Ireland senior football champions Donegal.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon revealed Desmond had highlighted McGuinness’s credentials to him.

“Dermot made me aware of Jim’s position and made the introduction. Jim has a skill-set that we don’t have here, in terms of the psychological side of the game.”
