Former lord mayor says sorry for ‘dole’ slur

A former lord mayor of Cork has apologised for “dole” comments he made about City Hall protesters.

But Fianna Fáil’s Terry Shannon said he stands over his “thugs and gurriers” description of some of those who occupied the council chamber almost two weeks ago.

He accepted the dole comment was derogatory and said it was made in the “heat of the moment” during an interview.
