An Aer Lingus jet had to circle off the north-west coast for a time yesterday while the crew dealt with a technical problem which arose after take-off.

Flight EI-111 had left Shannon at 1.40pm, destined for New York, when the crew contacted air traffic controllers soon after take-off to report an issue with the jet’s braking system.

The crew told controllers that they were in contact with their operations centre and were discussing the issue with company engineers.
