Howlin backs Burton call for cap on pension tax relief

A second Labour minister has backed plans to cap the level of tax relief for top rate pensions.

The move could save tens of millions of euro for the exchequer if introduced in next month’s budget.

Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin yesterday said that the change for public sector and private pensions would see tax relief reduced for pensions greater than €60,000.
