Home help workers took to the streets of Cork over the weekend to voice their anger at cutbacks to the service at both a national and local level.

More than 100 protesters marched from City Hall to Cork city centre calling for a reversal of the HSE’s decision to bring in cost-cutting measures.

Workers say the cutbacks not only have affect their families economically but also deeply upset vulnerable pensioners who have personal care issues. The HSE has cut 32,000 hours in home help provision across Cork City and county between now and the end of the year.
