Garda staff associations have reacted angrily to plans that as many as 80 stations are to shut in the second raft of closures.

The Garda Representative Association slammed a proposal from management to replace many of the closed stations with a “some sort of mobile police library”, with a garda holding occasional “clinics” in parish or community halls.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors said the drip-feed of information to the media was an “insult” to its members.
