Hundreds of family and friends attended Custume Barracks in Athlone to formally bid farewell to the 107th Infantry Battalion, which leaves for Lebanon next month.

“Daddy, Daddy,” cried out one little girl as the soldiers participated in walk-past in front of Paul Kehoe, the junior defence minister, who along with Athlone’s Mayor Cllr Jim Henson, reviewed the troops.

The battalion includes four sets of fathers and sons, and three sets of brothers, who will be posted at new headquarters to be known as Camp Shamrock, south of Tibnin near At Tiri.
