Groundbreaking studies on creating embryos from three parents have been a partial success and could lead to new ways of preventing the transfer of genetic diseases, scientists have revealed.

Mixed results have been obtained from studies of a “three parent” method of preventing inherited mitochondrial diseases.

Scientists testing the technique, which involves switching DNA in a donor egg, produced human embryos, but over half contained abnormalities.
