Rossiter had tried to ‘reconcile and move on’

A man shot dead in an early-morning attack last week had recently been trying to reconcile with people with whom he had “issues” in the past, his funeral Mass heard yesterday.

Shane Rossiter, aged 30, was buried in Clonmel five days after being shot at a house in Golden, Co Tipperary, and just two weeks after he had attended a Christening ceremony for his nephew.

There was a reminder of another loss suffered by his family when a photograph of Shane’s younger brother, Brian, was one of a number of items brought to the altar in the Church of the Resurrection yesterday.

Brian was 14 when he died in hospital three days after falling into a coma at Clonmel Garda Station in 2002, having been arrested under the Public Order Act.

Fr Ray Reidy said: “Shane, sadly, is, gone to join his brother, Brian, who also died at a very young age.”

Other symbols of Shane’s life included a bracelet given to him by his girlfriend when they were in Australia and a CD of his favourite music, while floral tributes included arrangements that spelled “brother”, “cousin”, and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, a reference to his support for Liverpool FC.

A large crowd gathered in the church in Clonmel to remember Shane and tooffer support to his parents Pat and Siobhan, brother Neil and sisters Jenna, Sharon, Amy, and Katie.

In recent years, the mourners were told, Shane travelled to Thailand and Australia, recently returning home. “I gather he was going around trying to reconcile with those that he had issues with, trying to put things right. He intended to move on.”

After the funeral Mass, Shane Rossiter’s remains were brought to St Patrick’s Cemetery on the outskirts of Clonmel for burial.

A garda investigation into his murder is ongoing.
