1,100 targeted allowances revealed

A full list of the original 1,100 public sector allowances that Public Expenditure and Reform Minister Brendan Howlin wanted to cut show that several are for thousands of euro each while others only amount to a few euro.

Until now, a breakdown of what each allowance amounted to had not been released. A trawl through the different claims for workers shows which ones are pensionable; what the weekly, monthly, or yearly amounts are; and how many workers are receiving them.

The documents, seen by the Irish Examiner, also show the annual cost for each allowance for the exchequer.
