Levels of unemployment are “unacceptably high”, according to Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, who said long-term joblessness is a “serious concern”.

The Labour leader struck a more downbeat note than his Fine Gael counterpart at a press conference yesterday to outline the Coalition’s progress on job creation.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the Government is making “some progress, with 17,000 additional private sector jobs created since Mar 2011”.
