Cork, Westmeath, Mayo, and Sligo are some of the counties that are bucking the trend when it comes to house building.

Nationally, the number of houses being built continues to fall this year — down by 10% compared to the first eight months of last year.

The numbers of houses being built remains minuscule in comparison to the heyday of the Celtic Tiger. Work started on 3,782 new houses up to August.
