Foley leaves Today FM to head 98FM breakfast show

Today FM presenter Ray Foley is to leave the station to take over the breakfast show on 98FM.

The 31 year-old Mayo native, who also hosts TV3’s dating show Take Me Out, will leave his role presenting Today FM’s lunchtime show in November. JP Gilbourne, his co-presenter on the show, will join him at 98FM.

98FM said Foley’s profile coupled with the on-air chemistry between the two presenters would “bring a new dimension to the iconic Dublin station”.

The station’s CEO Chris Doyle said: “Breakfast is a prestigious slot on radio and we know Ray and JP will do a fantastic job and add big personality to 98FM. Ray reaches right into the core of our target audience, and having an established name with huge experience and talent is a brilliant addition to 98FM.”

Foley said: “This show has been a dream of mine ever since I was a newsreader on 98FM a decade ago. I’ll miss my mates in Today FM but this prospect was just too tempting to turn down.

“Dublin is in for a rude awakening.”

Today FM CEO Peter McPartlin said the station would be sad to lose the two presenters.

“Both have made a big contribution to Today FM’s reputation, personality, and level of creativity and I wish them well in their new endeavours. The lunchtime/ afternoon slot is very important to us — we have established a lead against our competitors here and I’m determined to keep it that way.

“The plan for a new show is already under way.”
