Saturday referendum ‘an experiment’

Holding the children’s referendum on a Saturday is “a bit of an experiment”, Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has acknowledged.

But Fine Gael would take nothing for granted in the campaign and work to ensure there was a high turnout and a Yes vote, he said.

The referendum proposes to insert dedicated children’s rights into the Constitution, and has the support of all the political parties in the Dáil.
