People spend more on home payments than food

Irish people are spending more on home payments than they are on food, according to the Central Statistics Office’s Household Budget Survey.

The CSO found that across the country, average household weekly expenditure in 2009-2010, the latest period examined, was €810.61.

That was an increase of 3% on the €787.12 average spend in 2004-2005, the last time the topic was examined.
