Hundreds of college offers to go out

Hundreds of students may be offered a college place in the coming days as a result of some of almost 1,700 Leaving Certificate upgrades being sent out today.

In addition to the 1,672 grades that were increased on appeal, 52 English results of students who did not appeal have been upgraded, although it was unclear last night if they were higher or ordinary level students.

Their papers were marked again as part of a quality assurance programme that checks the original processing of results.
