City chief insists council not obliged to maintain boilers

Cork’s city manager has insisted the local authority has no legal obligation to maintain boilers in its tenants’ homes.

Tim Lucey outlined the position after concerns were raised following his decision to defer the city’s boiler maintenance programme as part of a €1.25m cost-cutting and savings package introduced last month.

Councillors challenged Mr Lucey two weeks ago about the council’s legal obligations to its tenants after he announced the deferral of the maintenance programme.
