Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has slammed the term “stroke politics” as “pejorative” while maintaining that the Programme for Government would be pursued by the Coalition despite the resignation of Roisín Shortall.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has been criticised for agreeing that Health Minister James Reilly’s decision to add two sites in his constituency to a list of locations for primary care centres looked like stroke politics.

“I think that’s a very pejorative term,” said Mr Gilmore when asked about the controversy in Manhattan.
