Celebs strut their stuff for Suicide Aware

RTÉ broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan will host a fundraising fashion show in Cork next month for a suicide charity.

The current affairs broadcaster has taken time out of her schedule, and waived her appearance fee, to attend the Let’s Talk fashion show in aid of Suicide Aware at the Rochestown Park Hotel on Oct 10.

Several Cork celebrities have agreed to strut their stuff on the catwalk including rugby star Mick O’Driscoll, GAA star Eoin Cadogan, restaurateur and apprentice star Sandra Murphy, and Cork Rose Bríd Ryan.

They will model the season’s latest looks from some of the city’s top boutiques and shops.

Suicide Aware chair-woman Pat Behan said the fashion show was one of the charity’s most important annual fundraising events.

“Last year, over 400 people enjoyed the evening and we hope that this year’s show will be as successful,” she said. “People have been so generous with their time and in donating prizes. All money raised will help us to continue our core services, that of helping people to deal with the issues of depression and suicide in Ireland.”

The show is being produced by Lockdown model agency, with hair by Solo hair design and make-up by Benefit.

The event is also suppo-rted by Cork’s Red FM.

A drinks reception sponsored by Donie O’Brien from Erne Wines will start the night and guests are being encouraged to dress to impress as there will be prizes for best dressed male and female. A raffle will also take place.

Suicide Aware is a voluntary organisation which aims, through workshops, to create public awareness and understanding of mental health issues, including depression and suicide.

It has also set up community committees to help people in crisis, and trained volunteers to identify people at risk of suicide and how to help them.
