A patient at Cork University Hospital had her purse containing €180 in cash stolen by another patient who was caught shortly afterwards spending some of it at an Abrakebabra outlet.

Insp John Deasy said yesterday that the crime was committed in the hospital’s emergency department, where a 57-year-old in-patient was on a trolley.

Sandra Robinson, aged 19, of Richmond Court, Bandon, Co Cork. who had been in the hospital for two days for abdominal complaints, pleaded guilty at Cork District Court yesterday to stealing the purse on Jan 11. Judge Leo Malone jailed her for three months.
