Over 450 children under 14 homeless on census night

More than 450 children under 14 years of age were homeless on the night of the census last year, figures reveal.

In the first countrywide count of homeless people, 3,808 were either sleeping rough or in accommodation designated for the homeless on Apr 10 last year. More than 180 young people aged between 15 to 19 years were also homeless on the night.

Focus Ireland yesterday urged the Government to act as it emerged that one in eight people who are homeless was a child under 14 years of age.
