Hunt after screwdriver raid

Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry after a man armed with a screwdriver robbed a filling station on the outskirts of Cork City yesterday.

Hunt after screwdriver raid

The lone raider, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, walked into the Topaz station on the Carrigrohane road at about midnight and threatened staff with the screwdriver.

He demanded they hand over the contents of the till before fleeing on foot in the direction of Cork City with about €500 in cash.

There were no injuries but staff members were said to have been shaken by the incident, which lasted just a few minutes.

Detectives viewed CCTV footage taken from inside the premises yesterday.

The raider was not masked and Supt Charlie Barry said they are now following a definite line of enquiry.

However, he appealed for anyone with information about the raid, or for anyone who saw anything suspicious in or around the filling station between midnight and 12.30am yesterday, to contact Togher Garda Station on (021) 4947120.
