Severe droughts in the American mid-west and in Portugal have devastated harvests, and according to the American Popcorn Company — one of the world’s biggest producers — there may soon be a worldwide shortage.

Those fluffy treats have been the favourite snack in cinemas everywhere since the 1920s. Back in the silent era, nobody really wanted to hear munching and crunching but as soon as the first Talkies arrived the demand for the snack exploded, so to speak.
