TG4 saddles up for new season with top teilifís

Riders, rebels, ramblers and rugby players are all in TG4’s autumn schedule unveiled in Dublin yesterday.

Programme attractions on the Irish language station include the search for Ireland’s brightest prospect in the saddle and a documentary on dark deeds and summary executions in Civil War Ireland.

Jockey Eile will see Seán Bán Breathnach, helped by racing enthusiast and GAA legend, Joe Connolly, give 20 men and women a chance to follow their dream of becoming a jockey.

Basú is a five-part documentary series on the well known Republicans executed by the Free State Government in 1922.

By the end of the Civil War, 77 anti-Treaty activists had been executed, leaving behind a very bitter legacy.

Déanta in Éirinn will see Manchán Magan doing his bit to help the country’s battered economy by travelling around Ireland and spending his money exclusively on Irish products.

Ó Tholg Tolg will follow two intrepid Irishwomen as they couch-surf their way across Europe to the Balkans and back, staying with complete strangers.

Dul i bhFláin wonders how our forebears survived by foraging on the land. The documentary will follow two men with a bit of training and knowledge about surviving in the wild.

Sean-nos will show emerging and established talent in traditional or sean-nos singing.

Twenty-five live RaboDirect PRO12 rugby games will be shown on Rugbaí Beo, including the clash between Munster and Leinster at the Aviva Stadium on Oct 6.

TG4 will also have exclusive Gaelic games coverage, with all-Ireland finals in Under-21 hurling and ladies Gaelic football in September and County GAA finals and AIB Club Championship thereafter.

The channel continues to boast that Ros na Rún is Ireland’s most authentic soap and there is a lot going on in the Connemara village.

This season a previously unknown twin sister arrives to cause havoc and a man about to be married falls prey to an unstable stalker.

The village’s wily publican and his son will be trying to cover up a murder while the local vamp does her best to get her man back from her ‘friend’.

Children from pre-school age to teens are well catered for with aged-tailored programmes broadcast throughout the day.

A súil eile selection of US drama series exclusive to TG4 includes the latest series of Breaking Bad, True Blood and teen drama series, Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.
