Plants capable of laundering 40m litres of fuel shut

Six fuel-laundering plants capable of generating income of over €20m for criminals have been seized so far this year.

The facilities could launder more than 40m litres of diesel per annum, reflecting the scale of the illegal trade in the country.

The trade offers vast profits for organised criminals, some of whom have links to dissident paramilitaries.
