Dublin’s roads complicate fans’ route to Croke Park

GAA supporters heading to the All-Ireland semi-final clash between Cork and Donegal tomorrow should give the East Link Bridge in Dublin a wide berth.

The Tall Ships Parade of Sail takes place on the River Liffey from 11am until 2pm on Sunday, and the East Link Bridge will be lifted for an extended period.

The flotilla of 40 tall ships and at least a dozen accompanying vessels line both sides of the Liffey in the Dublin Docklands east of the Sean O’Casey Bridge.

Dublin was the final port of call for the vessels, which set sail on Jul 5 and went to ports in France, Spain, and Portugal.

Because of the Tall Ships Festival, more than 20 streets around the north and south docklands have been closed until tomorrow night.

Closed roads include Custom House Quay, North Wall Quay, City Quay, and Sir John Rogerson’s Quay.

The Samuel Beckett Bridge will be closed for the duration of the festival, but will open between midnight and 8am.

Gardaí have warned that there will be no parking within the festival cordon on both sides of the Liffey.

AA Roadwatch has also warned of restrictions in the Phoenix Park tomorrow for the Dublin City Triathlon.

Both minor and senior football players will do battle at Croke Park tomorrow, with an estimated 55,000 supporters attending. Turnstiles will open at 12.30pm and the first match will throw in at 1.30pm.
