Adrienne ‘loved by Rose family’

Amid the party atmosphere this week, Rose of Tralee festival-goers are being asked to remember one of their own whose life was cut tragically short earlier this year.

Adrienne ‘loved by Rose family’

2010 Texas Rose, Adrienne Hussey, passed away in January at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin from what was later confirmed as a brain haemorrhage.

The 26-year-old, from Plano in the Lone Star state, had suddenly taken ill just two days earlier.

Two of her close friends, Elizabeth Spellman and Kelly Gaetano, are representing Philadelphia and Texas at this year’s event.

The social worker and Irish dancer’s boyfriend Eoin Treanor, who was her escort at the 2010 festival, was by her side when she died.

Presenter Dáithí Ó Sé said the “Irish American and Rose of Tralee communities showed their strength this year when the powers that be took Adrienne. Both communities came together in sadness and showed what a powerful unit us Irish can be”.

Rose of Tralee spokesman John Drummey added that Adrienne’s memory will be honoured alongside the festivities at this year’s event.

“It was a great tragedy and Adrienne was very much loved and admired by all her friends, and the Rose family.”
