Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a savage attack on a taxi driver who was robbed and left for dead on the side of a roadway in Co Tipperary.

The taxi driver picked up a fare from two men from outside his taxi base at Treaty Cabs on Davis St in Limerick City last Saturday night.

As he left the men to their destination in Newport, Co Tipperary, the two of them set upon him and stabbed him with a knife and a screwdriver.
