North Cork crash couple off critical list in England
A spokesperson for Derriford Hospital in Plymouth confirmed last night that Con and Elber Twomey, from Meelin, north Cork, are now being described by doctors as “stable”.
It is a slight improvement since last week’s condition update, when the couple was described as “critical but stable”. But it is understood that Con, 39, and Elber, 36, suffered life-changing head and brain injuries.
They have been in hospital since a car driven by Marek Wojciechowski, 26, crashed into their car in Torquay as they made their way to the ferry after a family holiday in south west England on Jul 6.
The couple’s 16-month-old son, Oisín, suffered severe head and neck injuries and died at the scene, while his unborn sister, Elber Marie, died hours later.
Mr Wojciechowski suffered multiple injuries and died, leaving a widow and two young children.
Over £1,000 has been paid into a fund set up for the two families affected by the crash. The money will help pay for funerals and relatives’ travel costs.
