Bid to position Tralee as retail and tourism hub

Tralee Chamber Alliance president Pádraig Mc-Gillicuddy said Tralee will only move forward if the business community works together.

Various business sectors in the town are represented on the alliance’s board, divided into four teams working on initiatives in tourism, culture, marketing, retail, parking, planning, enterprise and employment, town image, and community pride.

Mr McGillicuddy said the alliance will introduce a campaign aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and urging co-operation with the gardaí.

The alliance will regularly liaise with influential Irish-born people overseas to help stimulate investment locally, while promoting Kerry Technology Park and Institute of Technology, Tralee.

The body, meanwhile, has made retired businesswoman Margaret Dwyer its first honorary member in recognition of her 50-year contribution to the town. Ms Dwyer has been a leading figure in the Rose of Tralee Festival and many other aspects of local business life.

Alliance chief executive Kieran Ruttledge will lead a tourism and marketing strategy to bring more visitors to the town.

“We will support the festivals that take place in Tralee each year, especially those that continue to and have the potential to bring visitors to the town,” said Mr Ruttledge.

“The town’s strong cultural identity will be boosted by an audit of Tralee’s current positioning in terms of the cultural and creative economies and identify where opportunities lie.”

The new 57km Kerry Camino trail offers hill-walkers an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of St Brendan the Navigator.
