Mileage rates for ministers will be cut by 10% to take into account any travel for personal reasons.

The move follows controversy last summer when Education Minister Ruairi Quinn claimed €1,451 for more than 5,100km in one month when the Dáil was not sitting.

It later emerged he had claimed for travel between Dublin and his holiday home in seaside town of Roundstone, Co Galway.
