Up to 170 jobs at risk as Texoil reorganises
Texoil owns 12 sites in Ireland as part of its fuel depot network, in Athy, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Cork, Carlow, Dublin, Galway, Gort, Kilkenny, Mayo and Sligo.
The company currently employs 225 people in Ireland across four divisions, including retail, wholesale and direct sales.
It is understood 115 jobs are in danger of being lost in the retail division over the next 14 months. In the direct sales division 37 jobs out of 90 are at risk. Four people in the wholesale division are to be laid off while two in the company’s head office will lose their jobs.
A spokesperson for Valero said the reorganisation is ongoing process and it is not possible to put an exact figure on the number of redundancies.
“The reorganisation of Texoil is ongoing and the extent of job losses will not be known until this process is near its conclusion.
“Much will depend on the successful sale of some company-owned and operated service stations, which, given the process involved in finalising any sale, could take some time.
“Therefore, we do not have a set timescale for the process. We are hopeful that a significant number of jobs will be transferred to the new service station owners,” the spokesperson said.
The workers are currently disputing the redundancy package offered by Valero. A Siptu spokesperson said the Labour Relations Commission had failed to resolve a dispute.
“The company offered two weeks and statutory redundancy per year, capped at 18 months’ pay. We’re looking for eight weeks’ pay,” said a Siptu spokesperson.
