Waste operator told to shut site

One of the south-west’s major waste operators, which has been operating a large waste transfer and dry recycling plant without planning in a rural area near Listowel, Co Kerry, for seven years, narrowly avoided being jailed this weekend after he gave a sworn undertaking to shut the site.

Residents’ hearts were broken and they were suffering daily, the court heard. It had been dealing with an application by Kerry County Council to jail him for breach of a previous order.

Eoghan McEnery, director of South West Bins Ltd, Church St, Listowel, took the stand on Friday at the Circuit Court in Killarney to swear to stop accepting material within a week at his plant at Carhooeragh, Kilmorna, Listowel.
